Design Secrets & Ideas

New York based Interior Designer. "When smart people work with me they are saving time and money — and you’re smart too!"

The name «pop-art» appeared from the combination of two English words and literally means «popular art». This interior style was founded on the basis of the pictorial art style that was widely popular during the 50-s of the last century.

Paintings and sculptures in pop-art style had symbolic character, for they depicted people, things or social tendencies that were strongly rooted within people’s minds. Original images of American culture idols, be it famous Marilyn Monroe or notorious Campbell’s soup cans, served as colorful sarcasm symbolizing the idea that the society is greatly liable to stereotyped thinking.

Pop-art as the style of interior design keeps on ruining the stereotypes making our life brighter. As a rule interior design is based on the objects of art setting up the mainstream theme. The most important thing we should understand is that first of all pop-art is symbolism colored in bright colors, curious geometry and playing with the shapes.

Modern pop-art in interior design features colorful posters, drastically bright color schemes, playing with different sizes and textures. When we hear the word pop-art funny comics pop up in our minds. Interior design may include combining glossy and plastic surfaces.

It is important to say that pop-art style is not something for the masses, it is more for the people who like to stand out in the crowd of many others, who is not afraid to shock and attract attention. Basically this is the style for young, life-loving and active people.
