After studying the problem of micro- housing and all the necessary elements for its design, MKCA (Michael K Chen Architecture) architectural studio started its work of decorating a small apartment in New York. The result has turned to be very unexpected and absolutely interesting.
This New York City apartment area is 36 square meters, but it has got everything you need for a comfortable living there. Living room, and dining room, bedroom and bath – all these rooms are placed there. There is a seating area and a dressing room there. A motorized sliding wall which moves from one end of the room to another one is the main attraction of the apartment. This element has helped to divide the place into the night and day areas. It opens the dressing room with built-in drawers and cupboards.
A huge sofa transformer bed, very popular in small apartments, opens when the doors slide apart. A workstation and a small library with additional shelves are also equipped there. A computer and the rest of the appliances are hidden in the storage which can be used as a bar.
The sliding wall hides a few interesting details, such as a revolving TV stand and a storage place for all audio and video stuff. TV can be 180 degrees rotated so you can watch it from your living room and a bedroom. There is a sofa with colorful pillows and a small round table placed in the area in front of the sliding panel.
A dining table for four persons is placed in a dining room area. The table glass top helps to keep the airy feeling.
There is a large working area the kitchen which provides a large storage space for small household items
A sliding door was installed in the bathroom. There you see a laundry basket as well. A few open shelves are convenient to store towels and other bath accessories.
