As a rule, the style «retro» implies American design tendencies since еру late 50-s up to 60-s. This epoch differed greatly from the previous one due to the drastic development of furniture manufacture, when the latest technologies have discovered new horizons.

As we can see at the photos retro of the 60-s is not so easy to incorporate within the contemporary interior. An ideal variant is to furniture the whole room with the elements of that epoch. Classic European furniture will look awkward; and the only style you can combine retro with is the minimalism.

Very often designers try to achieve retro effect within contemporary interior by means of soft furniture – sofa, armchair, puffs. Preferred geometric and sometimes mind-blowing ornaments of the 60-s take the second place.

We should not forget about the general color scheme of the room, very often wooden furniture within this kind of interior should be blended with some pastel colors (sky-blue, mint, pale-green) or bright colors (quail, orange and acid tints). These two variants create an unconventional and extraordinary fashion all your guests will appreciate and remember.

There is also a simpler color design variant that does not imply using eye-catching colors. It means a combination of traditional colors of the wood with black, white, red, blue and brown variations. This kind of interior is often called Manhattan retro for its seriousness and sheer practical approach to the case. This variant in a loft style you can see at the photo below.

Retro looks a bit different in a country house, for there is enough space for numerous chests of drawers, console mirrors and additional low sofa and coffee tables. Moreover, furniture arrangement plan in American cottages of that period favored a bar counter, which is very convenient for guests reception.

In general retro style always looks a bit semi-empty due to the small-size furniture. And versatile lightning and miniature armchair add some glamour to the overall interior.

If there is a dining area within a living room, it may be the most popular variant for adding a bit of retro style to the interior design by using Tulip or similar stools. Wherein, the other furniture can be contemporary and often minimalistic.
